KitQuest ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our chore management platform.We aim to comply with:
  • COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act) - for users under 13
  • GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) - for EU users
  • CCPA (California Consumer Privacy Act) - for California residents

2.1 Information You Provide

When you register and use KitQuest, we collect:

  • When you register using social sign-in, we receive your email address from the OAuth provider
  • You manually enter your first name (required) and last name (optional) during registration
  • We do NOT automatically import or store your full name from the OAuth provider
  • We may pre-fill name fields with your provider's display name for convenience, but you can edit or clear any field
  • Your OAuth provider may share your profile photo, but we do not store it without your explicit consent

2.2 Children's Information (COPPA)

For users under 13, we collect only the minimum necessary information with verifiable parental consent:
  • First name (required)
  • Last name (optional)
  • Avatar or profile picture (optional)
  • Chore completion data and points
  • Parent email address for consent verification
We do NOT collect: Birthdates, phone numbers, or precise location data from children.

2.3 Automatically Collected Information

  • Usage Data: Pages visited, features used, time spent in app
  • Log Data: IP address, timestamps, error logs

4. Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do NOT sell your personal information. We may share data with:
  • Family Members: Parents can view their children's chore activity and points
  • Service Providers: Hosting (Azure), authentication (Firebase), payments (Stripe, RevenueCat)
  • Analytics: Google Analytics, Firebase Analytics (anonymized)
  • Legal Compliance: When required by law or to protect rights and safety
All third-party providers are contractually obligated to protect your data and comply with COPPA/GDPR.

5. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures including:
  • Encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and at rest
  • Secure password hashing (bcrypt)
  • Role-based access controls
  • Regular security audits and penetration testing
  • Automatic logout after inactivity
However, no system is 100% secure. You are responsible for keeping your login credentials confidential.

6. Your Privacy Rights

  • Account Deletion: Settings → Privacy → Delete My Account (signed in) or use the Delete Account page (signed out).

We retain your data for as long as your account is active, plus:
  • Consent Logs: 7 years (FTC statute of limitations for COPPA)
  • Transaction Records: 7 years (tax/accounting requirements)
  • Backup Data: 30 days after deletion request
  • Anonymized Analytics: Indefinitely (cannot be linked back to you)

8. Advertising

We display contextual advertisements to all users, regardless of age. However, we prioritize privacy:
  • We show only contextual ads based on the current page content
  • We do NOT use advertising IDs or tracking pixels
  • We do NOT use behavioral targeting or profiling
  • We do NOT share personal information with advertisers
Ad-Free Tier: We offer a premium ad-free subscription tier that completely removes all advertising from the platform.

9. International Data Transfers

Your data may be transferred to and processed in the United States or other countries where our service providers operate. We ensure adequate data protection through:
  • Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) for EU data
  • Privacy Shield certification (where applicable)
  • GDPR-compliant data processing agreements

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes:
  • We will notify you by email or in-app notification
  • For children's data, we will obtain renewed parental consent
  • The "Last Updated" date at the top will be updated
Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
